I thought I give you all a bit of a heads up/sneak leak at next Month's handmade holiday gift tutorial/makealong.
I love handmade jewellery and clean lines. But I am also a bohemian sould and a hippie at heart.
So I dragged out my yarn and some beads and went to town.
I made a crochet necklace, that can also double as a wrap bracelet and a matching pendant, so there is even more variety in how you wear it!
In case you want to crochet along:
● very fine yarn. Mine has 398 yrds/364m to 50 gram. You can either use cotton, or bamboo.
I realise you can make A LOT of necklaces. So you may want to check for tatting threads, or maybe embroidery thread. My yarn is about the thickness of 3 single threads of embroidery floss from a 6 thread strand. However, I am not sure if you can get one whole necklace out of one strand. I will check that in a few days and let you know.
● 17 seed beads. I don't know the size, since I don't work with beads too often, but laid on my ruler they were 5mm diameter. I will put a photo for you to see.
● crochet hook to fit through the hole in the beads you use and to fit your yarn/thread.
● a smooth pebble/river stone approximately 1.5 inches tall by 1 inch wide and a contrasting colour to your thread.
● one 1/2 inch (1.5cm) button
What I used:
My yarn is called Delightfully fine yarn by Jubilee Yarn Minnesota. It's a bamboo/tercel blend. I usually hold two strands together but only used one for this necklace.
I am not affiliated with this company, but this is yarn I have at home. Bamboo is a renewable resource and is easy to take care of. It also has a delightful shine to it and an amazing drape. Kind of like silk, but vegan. 😉
The hook I used is my trusty old clover No.10 (0.75mm) it was almost too small for the yarn, but it was the only hook that fit through the beads.
The beads were leftover from an ancient project I did years and years ago. You can vary the size of the beads of course and use bigger ones, or use shells instead. These were just what I had on hand and they fot the colour of my yarn.
I used a mother of pearl button, but I think a cute vintage buttkn would be adorable. Or a button stack? Or a big bead, or shell. I will make more of these necklaces and see what I can come up with.
Anyway. Here is a picture of the finished necklace and pendant and of the materials needed.
@ylovette1 yes. Bamboo is slippery. I don't make knots out of habit. My grandma, who taught me would have fits over a knot lol. So I don't have that problem with them coming u done. But you could try a bit of fray stop, or fabric glue on your knots and see if that stops them coming undone.
