I do a lot of hand sewing.
I mean A LOT.
I have made 4 baby quilts and 2 Lap quilts all hand pieced and hand quilted. (The baby quilts were all EPP.)
I sew everything I make by hand. I have two sewing machines, but only use them if there is no way out (and right now both of them are broken down, so there is no way for me to use any of them anyway)
Why am I going on about this?
Well. If you sew a lot by hand (people call it slowstitching now), you use any help you get.
Help in the form of having your thread tangle and knot less is very welcome indeed, so I use thread conditioner.
It's "just" beeswax. Yep. That easy. Get some beeswax and slide your thread over it once. It will coat the thread and stop it from tangling and knotting. It will also stop it from fraying as easily.
If you need your thread a bit stiffer for whatever reason, you can slide it more than once and give it a thicker coating.
Now, there are tons of thread conditioners out there. Some come in plastic containers, others are some sort of different concoction and not wax at all. Some are easy to use, some are not. There is definitely something for everyone.
Usually I buy beeswax in a bar, hack a bit off for my thread and use the rest for lip balms, lotions and beard balms for the fellas.
Recently I thought I want something cute and more girlie and fun. So I got myself a candy mold and went to town.
The beeswax goes a long way, so you don't need huge chunks of it. That's why I opted for the little 1 inch size hearts.
I have now so many, that I can happily share a few. So I am going to list them in the shop.
My thread conditioner is not "just" beeswax. It is USDA certified organic and cruelty free beeswax. This way you can stitch to your hearts content and be secure in the knowledge that no bees were harmed!
I don't like having to move the same little beeswax chunk all the time, so I thought I will bundle them in sets . You get 3 little one inch hearts. This way you can keep one in a notions bag and one in your sewing box and store one for later. 💕
The hearts will come each wrapped in wax paper for easy transport and storage. Please remember these are natural beeswax and will melt if left in the sun or by any other heat source!
(The bag in the photo was an exclusive for my website/app members.)
They will last a while. And look cute and will remind you to always sew your heart into everything you make.
While these are plain natural beeswax scent, I have plans to make scented ones eventually too. I think it might be nice to get a bit of calm lavender, or revitalising peppermint while you sew. Don't you think?
Please stop by the shop and get your set! You won't be disappointed.
If you are a member of my forums, you already know about the thread conditioners. It's a perk of being a member. You get sneak peaks and special, or exclusive offers. So you may want to consider signing up!
